First edition: xxxiv, 227 pages , pages 228 – 240 adverts, a folding table of exports, bound in full brown leather, rebacked with a new different leather spine, titled gilt on the spine, foxing throughout , advert for the Natal Mercury tipped in on a front free end paper,
Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography, volume 2, pages 236-7, ‘There is a full description of the estates and plantations of the colony, with much information respecting the individual farmers and their crops, and other interesting matter. A portion of the volume is devoted to an account of a trip to the then newly discovered diamond fields of Griqualand West. The writer reach Du Toit’s Pan on June 9, 1871, and he give an animated sketch of the scenes at the new digging. A letter from a digger written in December 1871 is reproduced; it is headed, “The great Camp at Colesberg Kop” and gives an early description of the Kimberley mine and the township. It is stated that some of the claims were valued at prices obtained for quarters of claims which would bring them up to £3000 for a full claim, while, “thousands of tents of all sizes and shapes are pitched around the kopje”.’
