310 pages, frontispiece, folding coloured map, 39 black and white plates, 5 black and white drawings, blue cloth with gilt vignette and title on the upper cover and spine, foxing mainly in the text and the fore-edge, uncut edges, top edge gilt, booksellers ticket on the front paste down end paper and stamp on the title page – Thomson Bros, a good copy.

An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 -1999 page 138: Jack served on the British border commission surveying the territory between Uganda and the Congo free State, and enjoyed subsequent sport in the region. Near lake Edward, he surveyed huge herds if antelope “feeding like sheep around the camp.” he hunted buffalo and lion thers , before proceeding to the Somali Valley after elephant. After surveying the 30th Meridian, he bagged additional elephants and buffalos, then headed into Rwanda after lion and more buffalo. A relatively unknown work.
