215 pages, lightly soiled khaki cloth, a very good copy.

Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography volume 2, page 491 – 492: It is asserted that " about thirty years ago a well-informed, influential, and unscrupulous coterie in Holland devised the fell projects which developed into that potential association since known as the Afrikaner (Afrikander) Bond, the Dutch patriot mourning over the transition of former national prestige pitting against the English his almost forgotten clan, the Boer nation, inciting them to usurp Great Britain in South Africa, Holland sharing the spoils." The aims and methods of the Bond are described by the author, who maintains that they included the habitual " attitude of holding aloof from English influences," the support of the paramount use of the Dutch language, the discouragement of marriages between the English and Dutch as being unpatriotic, the arming of every Afrikander with the best possible weapons, the employment solely of " teachers who are animated with truly patriotic sentiments," and while preserving absolute independence, the favouring of Holland " for a domestic base " with regard to " the ties of blood relationship and language."
