Original JAN SMUTS Typescript with Autograph Corrections

A most interesting 7pp. original ribbon typescript article by Smuts with autograph manuscript corrections and additions in pencil in Smuts hand. This is an article submitted by Smuts to his friend, the journalist C.S. (Stoffel) Coetzee, one time editor of "The Star", presumably for publication in that newspaper. It relates to Smuts' view on how the English Press could play a more active role in attracting Afrikaans speaking people to its readership and in so doing, possibly exert some greater political influence. This is an extensive treatise on the the subject and as such is most interesting and important. I have not traced whether the article was ever published or whether it appears in the "Smuts Papers". I have included scans of all 7 pages so that the article can be read in its' entirety. The last page is "signed" with a small squiggle ? Smuts initial. The typescript is on 7pp. of lightweight 4to. paper, some edges of which are frayed. Most pages have several autograph corrections or additions. There is also a paper clip stain at the top of each page and the pages have a fold crease.
