A former library copy but appears to have never been read. There is a stamp of the "Studenten Societeit, Delft" on the upper edge of the book when closed. It appears that the same stamp was at some point delicately removed from the front endpaper, free endpaper, half-title page and title page. There are no other markings and overall the book is near fine.
The true first edition, the book being written in English and only later translated into the author's native Danish. The American first edition appeared under her pen name, Isak Dinesen.
"I had a farm in Africa," the book famously opens, "at the foot of the Ngong Hills. The Equator runs across these highlands, a hundred miles to the North, and the farm lay at an altitude of over six thousand feet. In the day-time you felt that you had got high up, near the sun, but the early mornings and evenings were limpid and restful, and the nights were cold."
