The tiny school book by Beswick is crammed with dates and historical information. I find it amazing to see what pupils were expected to know in 1897 at the little High School in Queenstown. Sadly the map has been torn out. There are occasional underlinings and marginal pencil markings. The binding and text are in good condition. The publisher's cloth is splitting along the spinal margins in Scully's book. It is interesting to note that Scully was a pupil of Theal when the latter taught in King William's Town in about 1868. The endpapers are browned and there are occasional pencil markings and marginal stains on pages 187 - 201. They are in the lower margins and do not reach the text, or illustrations, which are in good condition. A very nice little introduction to South African History.
