Publisher's coarse red cloth binding with gilt titles on front panel and spine.

196pp. Illustrations and black & white photos in profusion.

Book and jacket in fine condition.

This copy is inscribed by the author and contains a handwritten letter from the author to R. F. Kennedy (S.A. art historian) who wrote the introduction.

"Dear Mr. Kennedy,

I should have sent this book to you earlier, but I heard about the distressing loss you had sustained, and did not wish to disturb you in any way at that sad moment.

Now I can only send a few words of sympathy. I have been told that Mrs. Kennedy had been ill for a considerable time. I hope without intense pain, for that is suffering not only for the patient, but for those who have to look on without being able to help. You and your family must have been living under much stress, and I hope that, with time, that memory will fade and thoughts of happier days will come uppermost.

You were kind enough to write a foreword to my book, so I hope you will accept, in return, the copy I send herewith. There are a few errata, - mostly in the captions, the proofs of which I did not see.

I have been at Bryanston for the last 3 1/2 months, recovering from a leg broken at the hip, but I hope to return to Port Elizabeth early in February. But it will be for a few months only. I retire finally from the Gallery. Probably at the end of May, or June, and Clayton Holliday has been appointed to take my place. I think he will do very well indeed.

I should have liked to pay a visit to the library, but in fact have never left Bryanston.

With best wishes and sympathy, your sincerely, Eleanor Lorimer."
