London Her Majesty's Stationery Office 1843. 1st Edition. iv,164 + folding map. . Internally tight and clean with only very occasional foxing. Scarce map intact and complete.

An important Parliamentary Paper detailing the expedition down the River Niger. Undertaking great expense and some danger, the purpose of the expedition was to hamper the International Slave Trade by contacting tribal chiefs along the Niger River and its tributaries. Through establishing commercial relationships with these chiefs, the Expedition hoped to prevent the trade of slaves from Africa to Brazil, Cuba, and the United States colonies.

An important title in the history of exploration and in the abolitionist movement, with a large coloured folding map of the "River Niger, showing the course of the Expedition under Captain Trotter in 1841
