This copy has been signed on the title page of the first volume by both J.J.A. van der Walt and the illustrator, Ellaphie Ward-Hilhorst.
The Juta sticker over the original publisher's name, Purnell, occurred because Juta took over further publication of this title until the NBI completed the third volume.
All three volumes are in their original dust jackets. All three volumes are in their original mottled grey coloured boards with white titling on their spines. Each volume has 50 full page colour plates by Ellaphie Ward-Hilhorst, black and white figures and distribution maps.
CONDITION DETAILS: The dust jacket of volume one has a vertical crease on its upper side. There is some toning on the jacket of the second volume and on the third volume's end papers. A used set that is still in above average condition.
