A most interesting album of original and reproduction photographs depicting scenes in South Africa between 1880 and 1914. Scenes include some from the First Anglo-Boer War of 1880-1881, the Jameson Raid of 1896, opening of various railway lines, a few of the Second Anglo-Boer War, burning of government buildings in Bloemfontein in 1908, and photos of various German prisoners-of-war in Pietermaritzburg & Pretoria. There are also a few portraits of military figures and church wardens, etc.. The photos vary in size from 11 x 8 cm to 20 x 15 cm. Altogether there are about 46 leaves, each with between one & five photos. The majority of the photos relate to the First Boer War - perhaps the collector of the album was involved in it. There are two photos of Sgt. Danagher, V.C. of the Connaught Rangers who won the V.V. near Pretoria during the First Boer War. Good condition, although the binding screws are no longer functioning and the pages are loose
