The first monograph on one of South Africa's most important artists, Jacob Hendrik Pierneef. This is the original Afrikaans edition first published in 1945, the English edition followed in 1947.
De Luxe edition of 250 numbered copies, signed by both the author and the artist on the verso of the title page.
There are 24 pages of text followed by 74 black and white and color prints.
The author, Johannes Grosskopf, was an Afrikaans author and professor in Economics at the University of Stellenbosch. As playwright he was the founder of Afrikaans dramatic realism and in 1926 was awarded with the Hertzog Prize, the most prestigious Afrikaans literary award, for his play As die Tuig Skawe.
This copy lacks the front endpaper and has some foxing on the front and rear paste downs and rear endpaper. The rest of the contents is clean. Bound in the publisher's original coarse green cloth. The gilt lettering has worn off along with some areas of green. Binding remains solid and square.
