Hardcover Quarto in glossy pictorial boards with 153 pages. Text in both English and Afrikaans and has light scratch marks to the front board.

A good clean copy with black and white photographs, and towards the end of the book there are 32 coloured landscape paintings. Previous owner’s inscription on the top/left corner of the front free endpaper. Overall, the binding is tight and square, and this scarce title is in very good condition.

Pierneef’s Johannesburg Station Panels Constitute the largest single commission of landscape painting in the history of South Africa. They were painted at an important time for Afrikaner nationalism. In his landscapes Pierneef addressed the Afrikaner’s nostalgia for the land, their imperialist desires, and he helped legitimize their exclusive claim to South Africa.
