Book condition: 153 pages, text in both English and Afrikaans, good clean copy, very light scratch marks to the front board, neat and clean copy with b/w photographs. Towards the end of the book there are 32 coloured paintings, some dirt marks on page 117, the binding is tight and square. Pierneef’s Johannesburg Station Panels Constitute the largest single commission of landscape painting in the history of South Africa. They were painted at an important time for Afrikaner nationalism. In his landscapes Pierneef addressed the Afrikaner’s nostalgia for the land, their imperialist desires, and he helped legitimize their exclusive claim to South Africa.
