In February 1820 Pringle, as leader of a Scottish party, sailed for the Cape under the British Governments assisted emigration scheme. In the Baviaans River Valley, where he and his party settled, he wrote his first South African poems. This new edition of his South African poems contains 38 poems and sonnets, plus three additional poems, Pringle's notes to the poems and the textual history of the poems. Limited Edition No.327 of 1000 copies. 2 b/w plates: the frontispiece, The Bechuana Boy and The Emigrants Cabin. Pages [i-vi]vii-xvii pp 1-180. Dust Jacket slightly rubbed.  Very Good. Marbled paper-covered boards with leatherette spine, gilt Balkema logo on front cover, gilt titles on spine. All in Very Good condition, clean and well bound.
