A mountain stick 126 cm. long. (The average walking stick is 80 - 100 cm. in length.) This rough hewn stick was bought by the late Mr. Mervyn Emms on an auction sale of the effects of the Rissik family. It was catalogued as having been presented to a member of the family by Gen. J. C. Smuts. There is little doubt that this was Gen. Smuts' favourite mountain stick.
