Although railway parcels and newspaper stamps have been in use in this country for over a century and quarter, they have received scant attention from philatelists. This is presumably because of the Cinderella nature of the material. Be that as it may, interest in these stamps has developed here and overseas and a need became evident to provide easily understood checklists and to provide a framework into which as yet unrecorded material could be fitted. For this reason the authors have resisted the temptation to record or research the minutae of printing and production techniques unless this was necessary to identify particular issues or specimens.
