Leibbrandt's survey begins with the appointment of Simon van der Stel's son, Willem Adriaan, as governor, and ends with the announcement of a large wool crop and the belief that this could be exported.

Dark brown cloth-boards, blind rules to the panels and gilt lettering to the spine, plain primrose endpapers, xvi / 205 pp of prelims, text, appendixes and addenda.

Leibbrandt was Keeper of the Archives and Librarian of Parliament. The dedication is to the Colonial Secretary, John Tudhope. This is a rare copy of the first series - the only series published.

An inscription to the front endpaper reads: To John Leibbrandt, from his godfather .....Leibbrandt. Rondebosch 5th January 1950. Content pages clear and clean. One cm piece of title page corner end is missing.
