81pp. Introduction by Rev. Robert Murray. Silas Tertius Rand spent most of his life among the Micmacs who were the original natives of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, as a missionary he befriended many but his life work was to master the Micmack language. He was responsible for translating most of the New Testament into their language. This book includes a chapter on Micmac Mythology which Dr. Rand considered to be sacred and like Bible narratives. Also included is a 26pp. reprint of Rand's poem "The Dying Indian's Dream", originally published in 1881.
This is an inscribed presentation copy (on the ffep.) from the author to Dr. Goodspeed, Editor of the Canadian Baptist in Toronto, Ontario. The original pebbled cloth binding has some light stains and a sunned spine. Otherwise the book is very clean.
