Rand Light Infantry tells the story of the activities of the Regiment from the time of its inception, 1905, to the present time, 1965. It gives the account of the part played by the R.L.I. in its early days, during the 1914 Industrial Strike, the German South West Africa Campaign of 1914-15, the 1922 Revolution, World War II and the years in between.
The narrative is mainly concerned with World War II when the Regiment saw much active service in North Africa during 1941 and 1942 and played an important part in the Battles of Bardia, Gazala, the early critical days of El Alamein in July 1942, and finally the Battle of El Alamein.
