According to The Nautilus (July, 1952)--"This work was originally issued in four parts and sent to subscribers as they were published.  When the work was completed these four parts were collated and bound in two volumes.  The dates were changed on the title pages of the bound volumes to corresp[ond to the dates of issue of the second part of Volume I and the fourth part of Volume II...The collated and bound sets carry the dates of 1931 for Volume I and 1935 for Volume II." (W. J. Clench, p. 33.)
