L'historien Joachim Le Grand (1653-1733), entra dans la Congrégation de l'Oratoire en 1671, mais en sortit dès 1676, puis il s'attacha à des études historiques en travaillant la connaissance des anciens titres et des chartes. Secrétaire de la pairie après des postes de secrétaire et négociateur au Portugal et en Espagne, son travail va s'orienter vers des travaux historiques, des inventaires et notamment sa Vie de Louis XI qui ne paraîtra jamais.
