Original black binding with gilt titling on the spine and regimental decorations on the upper board. 6 prelims, 138 pages, eleven full page plates as called for: A black and white plate of Moirosi's Mountain and 10 colour plates of soldiers in uniform with tissue guards and a coloured fold out map of the Siege of Wepener.

The text has various rolls of Cape Mounted Riflemen who were killed or died of wounds or disease in the Anglo -Boer War, lists of those awarded commissions, etc. Appendix A has lists of officers and Appendix B has a list of Decorations, including the six recipients of the Victoria Cross. 

As usual, a name/word is blacked out - see image of the preface page - and at page 16.

CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has a few minor scuff marks and the joints have short splits at the head and foot of the spine. There is a book plate on the front paste down and a pen inscription on the front free end paper. A couple of the tissue guards have stains.
