Broadly speaking the author has divided the subject into seven parts, embracing the lsits of officers and the history of the following seven regiments:
1. North Hants Militia.
2. South Hants Militia.
3. Isle of Wight Militia.
4. The South-West Hants Regiment of Local Militia.
5. The South-East Hants Regiment of Local Militia.
6. The Hampshire Militia.
7. The 3rd Batallion of the Hamsphire Regiment.
Whilst the author was completing his researches he suggested to Colonel Maitland Moore-Lane, the officer commanding the Duke of Connaught's Own Hampshire and Isle of Wight Artillery (Southern Division Royal Artillery) that the work would be made of greater interest by embodying the records of the county Militia Artillery, which cane into existence in 1853. This work was published-June 1894.
