William Thomas Brownlee served in the Native Affairs Department of the Transkeian Territories form 1876 to 1916. He was chief Magistrate in charge of the administration of these Territories. This book is not autobiographical but is a collection of the stories of some of the incidents and characters that filled his eventful life.
