First Edition Hardcover Octavo bound in original black cloth boards and has 100 pages. Gilt titling to the front board, boards are scarred, extremities worn.
Head/heal and corners are a bit bumped, binding shaken and the half title page is loose.
The book contains prelims, a map, frontispiece + 22 wonderful Black and white plates, the author was Assistant Superintendent C.T.O. Cape Town and these are his memoirs of 40 years of the development of the Electric Telegraph Service in South Africa.
This is a rare account of the early telegraph service including technical changes, Kimberley, the Boer War & personalities, etc. Just after the half tile page, there is Facsimile of the First Cape postage Stamp – Issued in 1863.
Some foxing and text browned throughout as usual, also has offsetting on the front/back pastedown and end papers. Overall, this scarce book is in good condition.
