\'Thunberg\'s account of his visit to the Cape of Good is of outstanding importance among the printed works on this subject published in his era. It comprises about one third of his book whose title in English is \'Travels in Europe, African & Asia.\' Foreword to the Van Riebeeck Society edition by Forbes and Rudner.
