How it works

159 pages. The first documentation of the visual art of the new culture of resistance emerging in South Africa - the work of over a hundred artists and cultural workers seen in the context of the troubled society in which they live. Here are their paintings, sculpture, graffiti, T-shirts, murals and posters - the drawings on the wall. Sue Williamson is herself a well known artist and activist, and has lectured on resistance art in South Africa, Sweden and the United States. Her series of portraits on South African women in the struggle, included in this book, has been exhibited in many parts of the world. Artists include John Muafangejo, Pippa Skotnes, Jonathan Shapiro, Patrick Holo, Andrew Verster, Hardy Botha, Tito Zungu, Sandra Kriel, Malcolm Payne, Jane Alexander, Clive van den Berg and Jeremy Wafer.
