Two volumes of this important monthly periodical - Vol. 22 (July - Dec. 1900) & Vol. 23 (Jan - June 1901),  in the original  publisher's decorative binding. 4to. 610 & 616pp. respectively plus 20pp. of cartoons at the rear of each volume. From the library (Rusthof) of President Louis Botha with his ex-libris on the front pastedown and boldly signed by him in ink on the verso of the blank front free endpaper in each volume. These issues contain much matter of Boer War interest - both letterpress and illustrations.

The Review of Reviews was a noted family of monthly journals founded in 1890-1893 by British reform journalist William Thomas Stead (1849–1912). Established across three continents in London (1891), New York (1892) and Melbourne (1893), the Review of Reviews, American Review of Reviews and Australasian Review of Reviews represented Stead’s dream of a global publishing empire. Stead had previously been editor of the Pall Mall Gazette. He was a controversial character, profuse writer and is said to have written most of the Review of Reviews himself - a remarkable feat as the periodical contains a huge variety of material from biographical and historical to literary and current affairs. Stead was a feminist and friend of Olive Schreiner and published several of her writings. He was also a Boer sympathiser in the Anglo-Boer War. He tragically perished on the Titanic on April 15th, 1912.

The issues of Review of Reviews published during the war contained much coverage of the war, as do the issues on offer. The fact that Louis Botha was the General and Commander of the Transvaal army during the war, renders this volume from his own library and signed by him, an association item of great interest.

Bound copies of The Review of Reviews in the publisher's binding are uncommon and seldom offered for sale.  This copy is in very good or better condition.
