The full title of the first volume of this set is: "Rock-Paintings in South Africa From Parts of the Eastern Province and Orange Free State", copied by George William Stow, with an introduction by Dorothea F. Bleek. The second volume is: "More Rock-Paintings in South Africa From the Coastal Belt Between Albany and Piquetberg", mainly copied by Joyce and Mollie van der Riet, with notes, introduction and explanatory remarks by Dorothea F. Bleek.

Both volumes are uniformly bound with red buckram spines with paper title labels on the spine and patterned paper covered boards. The first volume has xxvii prelims, 72 monotone and coloured plates, loosely inserted tissue guards, followed by a full page map. The second volume has xx prelims and 28 monotone and coloured collotype plates, followed by a full page map.

CONDITION DETAILS: Both volumes have the James Hamilton Russell book plate on the front paste downs. The bindings are a bit worn and the corners are bumped and frayed, more so the first volume. The paper title label on the spine of the second volume has a small piece worn off on one side - see image provided. There is some sporadic foxing/spotting, especially the first and last few pages of each volume.
