The complete set of Millin's detailed diaries documenting the Second World War and its aftermath (ending with the Nuremberg Trial) and written from a South African perspective and with a focus on the opposing views of General's Herzog and Smuts. Considered by many to be one of the author's most important works. The six volumes comprise:
World Blackout - covering the years 1939 to 1940.
The Reeling Earth - covering the years 1940 to 1941.
The Pit of the Abyss - covering the years 1941 - 1942.
The Sound of the Trumpet - covering the years 1942 - 1943
Fire Out of Heaven - covering the years 1943 -1944.
The Seven Thunders - covering the years 1944 - 1946.
Most volumes of this set are scarce in first edition. It is even more unusual to find a complete set offered and particularly in such nice condition. All volumes are in about fine unmarked condition in the original black cloth (except for Vol. 3 where the cloth is green). All six volumes are in the notoriously fragile dust wrappers. These vary in condition from near fine to very good minus with mild to moderate chipping in some. All are in protective sleeves and hence the gloss on the images. Overall a very clean set.
