First Edition, Second Impression, Hardcover Octavo bound in quarter white cloth over pale blue paper boards (faded) and has 351 pages with preliminary matter and index. Black titles on the front board and to the spine.

Head/heel and corners are a bit bumped; the dustjacket is intact with nicks and tears along, particularly, along the top edge. Page 99/100 is under-trimmed and folded in. The binding is still relatively firm.

This sought-after book by Gandhi details his time in South Africa and the Indian struggle against colonialism and the government of J. C. Smuts.

First published in 1928, this revised second edition was published in 1950 in a print run of 5000 copies and sold for four Rupees. Some offsetting can be seen on the front/back end-papers, previous owners’ inscription on the front end-paper, foxing throughout the book. Manilal Gandhi spent most of his life in South Africa, editing 'Indian Opinion' from 1920 until his death in 1956.
