xi, 306 pages, frontispiece portrait of the author, 16 plates, folding map. Original red cloth with gilt title and an elephant motif on the upper cover and gilt titling on spine, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, signature of a previous owner on the front free endpaper, a very good copy.

Czech: An annotated Bibliography of African Big Game hunting Books, 1785 to 1950, page 162, ‘Sykes relates his military duties in Sudan along the Nile but also mixes in some exciting elements of big-game hunting. There are two chapters on stalking elephant, one on hippopotamus, and one on rhinoceros, as well as a dash of antelope hunting.’
