1.) "SILVA CAPENSIS, or a Description of South African Forest-Trees, and Arborescent Shrubs, used for Technical and Oeconomical Purposes, by the Colonists of the Cape of Good Hope" by L. Pappe - Colonial Botanist & Professor of Botany in the South African College.

First edition, printed by Van De Sandt De Villiers & Co., Cape Town, 1854.

Modern binding. 53pp.

Ink annotations throughout text which, at the top of page 3, are explained as being "additions written in from the 2nd edition of 1862". (I'm not sure whether this is the author's own hand)

'In addition to the description of the seventy-seven trees and plants included in the compilation, there is an explanation of the botanical terms used, and an account of the "Cape Wax-Berry," with notes on its culture and uses, and directions how to prepare the wax. The author states that the pamphlet "will tend to open the eyes of the incredulous, and show to the Colonists, and to the world, that South Africa is not so destitute of superior woods as most people imagine." ' - Mendelssohn Vol. II, page 136

2.) "FLORAE CAPENSIS MEDICAE PRODROMUS; or, an Enumeration of South African Plants used as Remedies by the Colonists of the Cape of Good Hope" by L. Pappe

Third edition - with corrections and numerous additions, published by W. Brittain, Cape Town, 1868.

Modern binding. 54pp.

'The first edition of this work appeared towards the close of 1850. It was intended as a choice collection of Cape medical drugs, sent by Messrs. S. H. Scheuble & Co., to the great London Exhibition of 1851. The examples enumerated deal with exactly one hundred species and there is a Glossary and an Index.' - Mendelssohn Vol. II, page 137

3.) "A POPULAR DESCRIPTION OF THE NATAL FERNS: Designed for the Use of Amateurs" by J. M. Wood, INANDA

First edition printed by T. L. Cullingworth, Durban, 1877.

Modern binding. 42pp + iv (index). A very scarce early Durban publication. Not in Mendelssohn. SABIB lists 4 copies.
