Lord and Baines pooled their considerable experience of exploration to produce an amazingly interesting encyclopaedia of practical survival for the explorer in the late 1800s. These include advice on the selection of wagons, boats, horses and oxen, on methods of hunting and fishing, bush cuisine and medical improvisation among many others.
