360 pages, frontispiece, 332 illustrations, blue cloth gilt, light foxing on the edges and endpapers, dust jacket, now preserved in a Brodart protector, a good copy.

Editor's note.'Steam navigation to South Africa dates back to 1825 and the present narrative provides a complete survey of subsequent developments on the Cape route down to the present day. Besides describing the establishment of the steamship lines and early rivalries for the mail and passenger traffic, the author also deals with notable events of the passage during times of peace and war. Shipwrecks and disasters are included and a short 'life-history' is given of every important liner which has been engaged in the trade.'
