[5]-104pp. 8 plates. A good copy in the original cloth-spined yellow pictorial thin boards as issued. There are some age-associated rubbing marks along the edges. Contents clean.

Some of the illustrations appear to be by W. H. Schröder (the illustration on the cover is signed by him) and the others are signed by A.D.M. (A. D. Menzies).

'A well-educated Englishman who arrived in South Africa in 1877, Roskell at once dissipated what money he had. Thereafter he tramped for six years about the country, cadging, during which period he claims to have walked 20,000 miles. The best incident in the book is a crude drawing of a hobo dancing in "break-down" in hobnailed boots on the billiard table in Schweitzer's Hotel at Aliwal North.' - South Africa in Print, 1952, page 48
