Sentenced April 28 1896 Pretoria Jail Ascension Day 1896

Showing our ideas of the Pig we bought in a poke from the Government of this so called Republic.

[1], 16 facsimile leaves of original sketches bound in a green cloth volume with the title on the upper cover in gilt – Sketches, the cloth is insect scarred, a good copy. On the front paste down end paper is the printers ticket – Shaw and Sons - Printers and Lithographers, Wholesale & Manufacturing Stationers. Fetter Lane & Crane Court, London E.C.)

The sketches of the pigs are signed by its respective “artist” with his date of birth.

Accompanying the volume is a loosely inserted typed page which names all the contributors – members of the Reform Committee. The names include Lionel Phillips, John Hays Hammond, Percy Fitzpatrick, Colonel Frank Rhodes, etc. The comment at the bottom of this page – relic of early political development in the Transvaal – extremely rare.
