J.L.B. Smith was the author "The Sea Fishes of Southern Africa", which appeared in many editions from 1949 onwards. In this edition Margaret Smith and Heemstra used J.L.B. Smith's book to produce the leading and most up to date text on the subject.
This copy is signed on the title page by Margaret Smith and Phillip Heemstra.
This is NOT the numbered limited edition, but is bound in full blue leather with gilt titling on the spine. All edges gilt. One assumes that the previous owner, L.E. Kreutzer, whose book plate is on the front paste down, had this copy specially bound in a de luxe style. Blue end papers. xx prelims, 1047 pages, profusely illustrated, mostly in full colour.
CONDITION DETAILS: This copy is lightly used and the boards are slightly warped in that they do not lie perfectly flat.
