Signed by Rhodes and dated 15th day of July 1897 in Bulawyo

A two leaf folio watermarked document handwritten in pen on the first side only, a very good copy.

The text details that Rhodes has given a piece of land to Henry Tempest Fynn. The size of the land is 3000 morgen, being the farm known as “Whites Run” in the division of Bulawayo. The document states that no money or other valuable consideration was paid for the property.

It is also signed by the Justice of the Peace and two witnesses - Gordon le Sueur and J.G. McDonald

Henry Tempest Fynn was one of Rhodes’ Young Men. Gordon Le Sueur's book Cecil Rhodes - the man and his work, published in 1913 Chapter 9 pages 190 - 216: Rhodes and his young men give an account of some of the aides Rhodes surrounded himself with. Le Sueur was himself one of them, and, as a secretary travelled extensively with Rhodes. "He collected a sort of bodyguard of young men in whom he was interested, and who were chosen on account of various and varied qualifications.

There were others of those whom he called his "young men," and in whose careers he took an interest, such as E. Law Brailsford and J.G. McDonald; and there were the members of what he called the "Queenstown Gang," including Percy Ross, Harry Huntley, the four brothers Fynn, and others, who were all farmers and hailed from Queenstown, Cape Colony, or thereabouts/ They were nearly all related to one another and were known as the Queenstown Gang.
