How it works

Folio (370 mm x 225 mm). 80 pages, collotype reproductions of 8 water-colour paintings and 11 pencil drawings by Lavinia Blythe. The text, set in Golden Cockerel 18 pt. type, was selected and edited by Gwyn Jones, who has also provided an introduction.

Bound in Orange niger and Green morocco, gilt on spine and on front/back boards, and top edges gilt. It has been suggested that this volume is one of the finest of all Golden Cockerels and Christopher Sandford himself has written as follows: ‘And so… it was for me a most satisfying book, maybe my best, and one I would be happy to remembered by’.

Only 500 copies were printed on handmade paper. 100 copies were bound in red and green morocco. It should be noted that this copy is number 1 and it is the only copy bound in Orange niger and Green morocco; in a buckram slipcase also containing an extra set of the eight collotypes in a special wallet. Enclosed is a letter from M.H.Mushlin (February 4th 1958), explaining the story of the unique binding of copy No.1.
