Aloes are among South Africa's most attractive and rewarding indigenous plants. This book is a complete guide to the 139 known varieties, each of which is individually illustrated with a full-page, four-colour plate(with the exception of a few small varieties which are two to the page.
Each plate is immediately accomapanied by a full description of the Aloe which gives all necessary details concerning distribution, flowering time, height, etc. While Mrs. Jeppe scrupulously adheres to the scientific formalities, she preserves a simplicity of style which will give this book a wide appeal both to the professional botanist and the layman.
During the printing of this second impression, a species of Aloes (not described in the first edition) has been submitted for classification. This species is included in this edition. See page 132 A.
