Four books containing 2 volumes each. To avoid confusion we have referred to a double volume as a Book.
Numerous illustrations and maps, some colour plates. Volume 3 Colour plate Frontispiece, General and Staff, is missing. At the end of Vol. 2 is a Facsimile of Kipling\'s handwritten poem, The Absentminded Beggar. Each of the 8 volumes approx. 200 pages with 8 preliminary pages.
Bound in red cloth-covered boards with red half leather. Gilt titles and gilt ring bands on spine and gilt lines on leather edges. Gilt page edges. Front and back endpapers marbled. All four books are in Very Good condition except for the following: Edges of leather spines frayed; Book 3 spine cracked and torn at lower end but still intact and protected from further damage by being lightly taped. Although some hinges are cracked, the binding is firm and there are no loose pages. Books 1 and 4 have small cracks at the top edge. There is no noticeable foxing in any volume.
