Loosely inserted is an essay Landscapes of the Soul - 8 pages - written by Abbé Henri Breuil to Walter Battiss on the occasion of the prehistoric art exhibition opened by Professor C.Van Riet Lowe at the Gainsborough Galleries Johannesburg on 24 October 1944.

There is also loosely inserted a A5 size two tone drawing in beige and green signed by Walter Battiss - The Busman's God -the Mantis 

From the foreword by the artist: This book is an introduction to the arts of three peoples of Southern Africa, and is the first book to be published in English in South Africa dealing with the arts and crafts of the Bantu and the art of the European.
