In the area near the Zambesi, Shorthose and his brother officers bagged lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, sable and assorted other game. In Uganda, he successfully collected elephant and buffalo. In one hair raising episode, while hunting elephant near Albert Nyanza, Shorthose was severely mauled by an elephant he had wounded, barely escaping with his life.
