"The ship Maunganui" owned by the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand Ltd. was carrying troops bound for France. It left New Zealand on 12th June 1917 and arrived at Plymouth on 15th August 1917.
This is the only number of Te Whakanui which was printed in Cape Town by the Cape Times Limited during the ship's stay in port.
