252 + (I colophon) pages, tall 8vo (290x195mm), wood engraved frontispiece, engraved title page vignette, 6 engraved plates, 3 engraved maps, engraved tail-piece, full brown morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, gilt design of two Amazons on horseback on the upper cover, gilt titling on the spine, top edges uncut, marbled endpapers, contained in a brown buckram slip case, some foxing inside slip case and very minor foxing on preliminary pages. A very good copy.
The Amazons has been designed, produced and published by Christopher Sandford at the Golden Cockerel Press, Poland Street, London in Poliphilus type, with Centaur initials, on Arnold's mould-made paper. Composition and presswork under the supervision of F.J. Newbery at the Chiswick Press. Compositors: V. Green and F. Danzfuss. Pressman: J. Bierman. The maps were drawn by Mina Greenhill. The edition limited to 500 numbered copies. No. 1/80 are specially bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe under the supervision of Stanley Bray.
