The fascinating life of an eccentric, but warm-hearted, kindly and hard working romantic, with a Guardian Angel at each hand. This autobiography extends from 1787 to 1846, with supplementary chapters to 1860 by Professor G.C. Moore Smith. 382 and 434 pages. Some of Sir Harry's antics might have been frowned upon, but are nevertheless hilarious. He found romance in the Peninsula War. A cannon ball passed beneath his horse's belly and knocked the stirrup from his boot. His horse, Aliwal, was always invited into his dining room to partake in celebrations of the Battle of Aliwal in India. Tops gilt. An odd water stain, but text good. All maps and illustrations present.
