Compiled, illustrated and published by John Singleton, lithographer, Durban.

An uncommon early Durban publication which was issued during the time of war.

Publisher's tan cloth binding with titles in black on front panel.

55pp. with map (map has come loose and is now loosely inserted. Map has paper reinforcement at rear)

Internally clean with a contemporary gift inscription on the front endpaper.

'It is stated that "the aim of the compiler of this work has been to present a series of views in continuity of district, with a brief and concise narrative of the operations of the Natal Field Force" (South African War, 1899-1902). It is claimed that the photographs are published for the first time, and that they give a more vivid representation of incidents and places of interest connected with the Natal campaign that can be met with in similar productions.' - Mendelssohn Vol. II, page 320-321
