A valuable record of the Siege of Mafeking, discovered 70 years after the event and edited by social anthropologist John Comaroff, who was doing doctoral research in the area at the time. Plaatje worked as court interpreter during the siege and was able to make interesting day-to-day observations. First Edition, 1973. Frontispiece plus 11 black-and-white photographs or photographic reproductions of Plaatje's text. Pages [i-viii]ix-xli pp 1-165. Endpapers show a map of Mafeking and surrounds at the time. Both Dust Jacket and Book in very good condition. Book has black paper-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Sellotape mark on inside top edge of spine on dust jacket. Top edge of dj creased but not torn.
