329 pages, frontispiece, pictorial brown cloth gilt, a very good copy.

Presentation inscription on the front free end paper reads: ‘Major F. C. March M.P. with the author's compliments May 1902’.

On the same page a separate pasted down insert on blue paper (probably cut from a letter), bears the signature of the author: Yours very truly H. Seton-Karr.

From the preface: 'The original intention of this book was to place on record, for the information of those whom it might concern, the story of the Mounted Sharpshooters Corps; how it came into existence,; some details of its recruiting; also such available information of the doings of the battalions in South Africa as might serve to illustrate the quality of the Corps as a part of the Imperial Yeomanry Force, and thus to justify, if this were necessary, its existence as a military body. In the course of carrying out this intention I have found it difficult to avoid, or have been unable to resist the temptation, endeavouring to deal in an amateur way with kindred matters of more general interest, such as the national crisis which brought the Imperial Yeomanry Force, as a whole, into being.'
